Dr Matthew Worthley first cardiologist at Ashford Hospital to use Abbott bioabsorbable stent

Published: Dec 15, 2016

Dr Matthew Worthley recently completed the first case using the new bioabsorbable stent at Ashford Private Hospital. While over 150,000 patients have been implanted worldwide now, this is only the 4th case in South Australia and the first at Ashford Hospital.

Absorb is the first fully dissolving device of its kind - a drug eluting coronary stent that dissolves naturally in the body over time. Made of a naturally dissolving material (similar to dissolving stitches), the device disappears in approximately 3 years. The stent has been devloped by Abbott, the global healthcare company.
