Diagnostic Electrophysiology Study (EP)

What is it?

An EP study makes it possible to study the heart’s rhythm disturbances under controlled circumstances. The doctor places thin catheters inside the heart to record the electrical activity. These catheters may also be used to reproduce abnormal heart rhythms.


Preparation

You will need to fast for 6 hours prior to their admission time. You will be in hospital for 1-2 nights.

Results

Your doctor will inform you of the results at the end of the procedure. A follow up appointment will more than likely be organized a couple of weeks later in the consulting rooms.
