Holter Monitor

What is it?

A Holter Monitor is worn for 24 hours and it records your heart rhythm for this time. The monitor is approximately the size of a small walkman and consists of 7 ECG leads which are attached to your chest by adhesive electrodes. Tape is put over the top of the electrodes to keep the ECG leads in place. The Holter monitor is placed in a pouch which may be attached around your waist or over the shoulders.

Preparation

You will need to wear comfortable 2 piece clothing as the technician will need to have access to your chest area. As the monitor must remain dry, it is advisable to bath prior to attendance.

Results

Results will be forwarded to your referring doctor within 7 – 10 working days.

If you are a patient undergoing this test and you have any further queries, please raise them with your cardiologist.
