Billing policy

SA Heart is committed to providing quality cardiac care with a patient focused approach.

As Private Specialist rooms, our policy is that patients are not routinely Bulk Billed and payment in full is required on the day of service. Payments can be made by Cheque, EFTPOS or Credit Card.
Please note: During the global pandemic it is our preference not to accept cash payments, thank you.

The Medicare schedule of fees represents what the Federal Government is prepared to contribute towards the cost of health services. The lifting of the Medicare rebate freeze, following a 5 year period of no increases, is phased and includes only selective and minor changes for specialists.

Unfortunately these rebates do not cover the full cost of providing high quality care in specialist clinics. The patient co-contribution, or gap, is the difference between the cost of providing high quality health care and the Medicare rebate.

Medicare accounts are lodged online at the time of your appointment. Provided you have your bank account details registered with Medicare your rebate will be deposited directly into your bank account within a couple of business days.

Registration of, or updates to your bank details, will need to be done via your Medicare online account through myGov.

The cardiologists conducting clinics at SA Heart are independent practitioners with varying fees. Patients will be advised of an approximate cost before their appointment. Patients who anticipate financial difficulty are asked to discuss their situation with their referring doctor or our reception staff.

Private health funds do not cover the cost of consultations or tests performed in specialist rooms. To access our FAQs about private health funds and what they cover please click here.
